Details
MP-5:
MP-5 is a fully networkable system. However this does not mean that the
licensing is open. It is licensed on a per-client basis. This means that
every PC that connects to an MP-5 database using MP-5 must have it installed and
licensed for that PC.
If required, the license may be transferred to another PC. However this will
require an uninstall & re-installation. On first starting MP-5 on the new PC,
you will need to contact EHS Data for an unlock code.
Remote connections
There are a number of systems that send a "video" of a PC to other computer(s)
via either a local network, wide area network, or the Internet. This is commonly
called "thin client". They fall into 2 main categories: those that have a 1:1
relationship, and those that have a 1:many.
1:1
The most common one of these is Remote Desktop, with other systems like PC
Anywhere and VNC being available. Essentially these all transmit one PC screen
to another. MP-5 is only used once at any time, therefore no additional
licensing is required.
1:Many
These include Citrix and Windows Terminal Server, among others. They use a
single server to run many instances of a programme to many concurrent users.
MP-5 licensing is required for EVERY user that is configured on the remote
server.
Expiry date
Normally, MP-5 licenses are granted for a 20 year period. After this time, they
will time-out and a new license will need to be purchased.
Third-Party software
Integral runtime software
An MP-5 license includes, as required, the following runtime software:
MSDE (Microsoft Database Engine)
Crystal Reports viewer
MapObjects Map viewer
MapInfo MapBasic automator
Surfer automator
Tee-Chart run-time files
These are provided with your installation and any required run-time licenses are
included in the price. Wherever EHS Data can practically technically support
these products, it will. It cannot, however guarantee full support for them as
sometimes issues may be beyond the control of EHS Data.
Non-integral third-Party software
There are a number of products recommended by EHS Data to improve performance,
efficiency and output. These include:
SQL server
surfer
crystal Reports
Crystal Reports Automator
MapInfo
These products offer their own support options. EHS Data will also assist
where possible.
